We are adding another face to our adoption program! His name is Sockeye -
an adult male humpback. Sockeye is named for a deformity of his jaw that resembles the
jawline of the Sockeye Salmon. Sockeye's smaller upper jaw actually fits down inside his
huge lower jaw, creating a whale-sized underbite! Sockeye was first sighted in 1984, and
has grown into being a healthy adult male. His odd jaw has definitely not impaired his
feeding ability! This year, Sockeye was observed on Stellwagen and the Great South
Channel. He's a great whale, and we're happy to add him to our list of adoptees.
