Atlantic White-sided Dolphins |

Physical Statistics:
The Atlantic white-sided dolphin is a medium-sized dolphin that reaches 7-9 feet in
length. One dolphin usually weighs anywhere between 600-800 pounds.
Field Marks:
Although named for the prominent white stripe that runs down the sides of the body, two
smaller stripes can also be seen. A tan stripe exists above the white and a light gray
stripe below. This species has a very pronounced "beak" or rostrum and a large,
hooked dorsal fin. White-sided dolphins are commonly seen in large pods and sometimes will
associate with the larger baleen whales for feeding purposes.
Individual Identification:
Relatively little work has been done on Atlantic white-side identification due to the lack
of distinguishing features. Any nicks in the dorsal fin or scarring on the body can be
used but it is not commonly seen.
